Memorial Day Event at Raleigh CrossFit to Benefit USO of NC
The USO of NC Helps offers support services and programs to our military.
RALEIGH, N.C. – Raleigh CrossFit is hosting a workout to benefit the United Service Organization of North Carolina on Monday, May 30, 2016. The workout is called “Memorial Day Murph” and will begin with a live rendition of our national anthem at 8:00 A.M.
The workout is called “Murph”, Lt. Michael Murphy, May 7, 1976 – June 28, 2005: Posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his selfless acts of bravery to protect his team. President Bush’s award speech to honor Lt. Murphy can be viewed here. This workout is traditionally done by CrossFit affiliates across the United States each Memorial Day weekend.
Raleigh CrossFit chooses to honor Lt. Murphy and our entire United States military by doing the workout and also by using the day to honor all servicemen and women through fundraising efforts to benefit a military charity or organization. In 2016, we are collecting “rack pack” items, which will be given to men and women returning home from their deployments.
