The goal was to fill the trunk of a vehicle with “rack pack” items for the USO of NC by way of donations from our Raleigh CrossFit community and beyond.
On Monday, May 30, 2016, Memorial Day, Raleigh CrossFit hosted over 75 athletes to complete a very challenging workout, “Murph”, named for Lt. Michael Murphy, May 7, 1976 – June 28, 2005: Posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his selfless acts of bravery to protect his team.
President Bush’s award speech to honor Lt. Murphy can be viewed here.
It is a CrossFit community tradition to perform this workout each Memorial Day to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice as military service men and women while performing their required duties.
Athletes of all genders and ages completed the workout and the weather was amazing!
1 mile Run
300 Air Squats
1 mile Run
Partition as needed. Partner version is to perform the runs together, but divide reps evenly until completed. May use weighted vest (20 lb. male, 14 lb. female).
At Raleigh CrossFit, we also use this day to help organizations that help and honor the families of our servicemen and women. This year we partnered with the USO of NC to gather donations for the “rack packs” provided to men and women returning from a tour of duty.
Thanks to the generosity of donations from each of our participants, we filled the car trunk and even more, in doing so, many soldiers will find happiness in having accessibility to personal items upon their return.
Thank you to everyone for always making a difference in our Raleigh community and beyond!
