Matt Bytheway has been working hard to pursue two passions: Cars and CrossFit. By day, Matt is driven by the pursuit of speed. He works as a District Parts and Service Manager for Subaru of America and has always enjoyed working on and fixing cars. His “need for speed” parlays over into his other passion, CrossFit. Matt began doing CrossFit a few years ago and not long after decided that coaching was his next step.
Since starting CrossFit, Matt has fine tuned his knowledge for movement and application, not just to improve his own athleticism, but also because he wanted to become a coach. Currently Matt holds three CrossFit specific certifications, including his Level 1 coaching certificate, Endurance and Gymnastics. He has also added two judges course certificates to his resume’.
“Matt has demonstrated his pursuit of knowledge by advancing his own certification progress, being directly involved in the organization and support of many of our community-focused events and being a friendly, approachable athlete at Raleigh CrossFit. His personal drive for excellence supports what we aim to achieve as a standard at Raleigh CrossFit.” – Chennelle, Owner and Coach
With Matt joining the coaching team soon, you will begin seeing him off the floor as an athlete and more often with a red coaching shirt on. As that occurs, please read more about Matt below.
Based on your initial experience and conversation with us, how do you see yourself with our Raleigh CrossFit community?
“I’m approaching a year at Raleigh CrossFit. When I moved to Raleigh and began my search for a new box, finding the right community was a big part of my decision. I chose RCF over others because I felt that the other gyms just did not have that connection between the clientele that I was looking for. At RCF the members support each other and in many cases the camaraderie does not end after the workout. I also was pleased with the style of coaching the staff members used to help each member perform movements safely while working towards their goals. These two aspects were important to me in my decision to join RCF and what makes me fit right in.”
Name three aspects of coaching that you enjoy and why.
“There’s really just one. Having the ability to use the knowledge, experience and skills I have acquired through training and seminars to help someone else achieve their own goals is what it’s all about.”
Welcome to the Coaching Team Matt!

2016 Barbells for Boobs – Pretty In Pink!
This is our event Raleigh CrossFit… you know, the one you look forward to each year! We stepped it up a notch.
Did you know that 2016 marked the 30th anniversary of the movie “Pretty in Pink”? Well, in honor of that, we thought we would throw a party! And what better way to show our true pink colors than with Barbells For Boobs – 30 Clean and Jerks For Time!
This year we are also doing some new things.
1. Still in costume, but themed for “Pretty in Pink”, 80’s or movie-inspired.
2. We will have a DJ!!
3. The event is on a Friday evening. Not too late that you can’t make a night of it with your special date, but earlier enough that you can come from work, change into costume and bust out 30 reps for time.
4. Prizes, games, dancing, a punch bowl… Let’s have fun!
We hope you can join us! Fundraising information is soon to follow, but please put this special event on your calendar. REMEMBER, last year we finished 1st in the state of North Carolina for fundraising efforts. Let’s repeat that distinction!
